Nonprofit Success In Action

Suru Consulting was born of a deep commitment to nonprofit excellence and impact. Founded by dynamic nonprofit leader Pauline Herrera, Suru draws inspiration from the good that stems from calibrated, thoughtful actions of impact leaders and nonprofit organizations. But, sometimes, those actions get blocked.

Suru’s approach is tailored to the needs of each 501(c)(3) client organization, its leaders, and its phase of development. A few key aspects in our work remain constant: understanding that is both deep and broad, emotional intelligence and attunement, and a consistent focus on taking action.

Services Designed for Impact

Every nonprofit organization is unique. So too are Suru’s services. Together with our clients, we assess what actions are needed to move missions forward.

Suru’s high-touch services are at the core of 501(c)(3) operations and effectiveness. All services are led by the founder, whose knowledge of nonprofit growth and development is matched only by her passion for meeting leaders where they are, digging deep into organizational needs, and doing the work to fulfill their missions.

Meet Suru’s Founder & Principal

Pauline Herrera, MNM, CFRE, CESG

Suru’s founder has worked in the nonprofit industry and public sector for nearly three decades and holds a Master's in Nonprofit Management. Pauline Herrera’s experience includes working at the director, executive, and board levels. For a decade, she led an arts, culture, and design nonprofit, first as Executive Director and then as President & CEO, where she tripled the organization's budget, expanded the team, and significantly increased program quality and participation. Her career also includes successfully launching the inaugural “One Book, One Denver” initiative for Denver’s Office of Cultural Affairs. In 2024, she founded Suru Consulting to continue supporting the transformation and development of small to mid-size nonprofit organizations across the United States.

“Pauline has been instrumental in helping us 'get our house in order.' She provided incredibly useful training for our board on best practices of board governance and engagement. She also painstakingly interviewed each board member to elicit their experience, ideas, hopes, and concerns, and compiled all of that rich information into an especially valuable summary that allowed us to set our priorities for the coming year. Additionally, she has provided really responsive coaching to myself and our Board Chair to ensure we're empowered and equipped to lead the organization and the board towards a bright future. We are so grateful for her amazing support and close attention to our needs as a growing team and organization.”

Ellie Adelman, LCSW, Founder & Executive Director, The Village Institute

“Pauline’s training of our board was timely, insightful and actionable! Every nonprofit should consider training with Pauline to set their organization and board up for success.”

Nazrawit Medhanie, MA, Former Board Chair, Project Worthmore

“Pauline has years of experience leading a non-profit through a growth phase. She can help you acquire the leadership and management skills to do the same thing. And she is an inspiring, kind human being!”

George Sparks, President & CEO, Denver Museum of Nature & Science

“Pauline is a graceful, thoughtful, and inquisitive professional who makes big things happen in uncharted territory. She's an invaluable member of the community whose humble nature masks the scale and diversity of the work that she does for our city. With many hats on her head and a completely positive outlook, Pauline is a pleasure to work with, and simply to be around.”

Justin Gitlin, Tech Director, Hovercraft & Creative Developer, Cacheflowe, LLC
